Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated that a majority of the Dengue cases among children have been reported among those wearing shorts as part of their school uniform.
He added that students in areas affected the most by the dengue epidemic will be required to dress in appropriate clothing, which includes long trousers for boys and clothing that will help cover up for girls.
The statements were brought out during a ceremony organized to hand out sanitary facilities and clean water.
He further added that 10163 schools around the country have an occurring sanitary problem in the premises, while the government has allocated more than Rs. 8 billion for the improvement of its facilities.
Kariyawasam went onto say that Rs.1869 million will be handed over to 1633 schools within a two day period (4 and 5 of June).
