Former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka yesterday said his monthly salary of Rs. 350000 was barely sufficient for a bachelor.
Fonseka, the Wildlife Minister of the 'Yahapalanaya government', said his allowances accounted for a half of his salary.
"I get a slightly higher payment as a national list MP.But still it's not sufficient," Fonseka said, speaking to media yesterday.
He said the President's statement on salaries of MPs was "completely false".
The Minister said the MPs were finding it hard to meet their expenses given the current economic situation.
