Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested polls chief Mahinda Deshapriya not to resign just yet from his position since his services are required for the upcoming polls.
Addressing a news conference early this year, the Elections Commission Chairman warned that he would quit if the provincial council polls would not be held before November 10.
However, the Prime Minister during a meeting with Mr. Deshapriya yesterday (Jul 9) had requested him to continue his services and prepare for the upcoming elections.
A total of eight provincial councils stand dissolved at present while the term of the Uva local authority is set to expire on September 8.
