Reliance Industries chairman, Mukesh Ambani, has overtaken Hong Kong business magnate Li Ka-Shing to become Asia’s second-richest man, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.
60-year-old Mukesh Ambani reached the number 2 spot as investors rallied behind him after he launched the JioPhone on July 21. The shares of his companies touched a record high after he made the announcement.
According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ambani has added $12.1 billion to his wealth this year. On July 21, at Relaince's AGM, Ambani had said that customers can get the JioPhone with a refundable deposit of Rs 1500, which effectively makes it free.
