Hollywood star and UV Goodwill Ambassador Ashley Judd said she was amazed by the resilience and strength of the workers of the Sri Lankan apparel sector.
Judd is currently on a visit to Sri Lanka for a brief humanitarian project.
“Sri Lanka’s largest export industry is driven by women. I had the opportunity to meet with many of these women and I am overwhelmed by their resilience and strength," Judd said, after visiting a factory in the apparel sector of Sri Lanka.
"These women uplift their livelihoods by improving their skills, growing their careers, and reaching new heights. Their success provides immense support to their family, community, and to the country on a whole. It is so inspiring to see how one industry, fueled by aspiring women, can help a country to raise above poverty," she added.
Judd, with an acting career spanning more than two decades, is also well-known for her global humanitarian efforts and political activism.
She played leading roles in films including Ruby in Paradise(1993), Norma Jean and Marilyn(1996),Kiss the Girls (1997),Double Jeopardy(1999),Where the Heart is (2000), High Crimes (2002), de-Lovely(2004), Bug(2006), Dolphin Tale(2011), Divergent(2014),Dolphin Tale 2(2014)
