Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka says the garbage problem in the capital city of Colombo has been fully resolved.
Addressing the media yesterday, the Minister said aside from the waste management issue and dengue problem, Colombo has earned a significant place in South Asia as a result of clean water supply and air pollution control.
Minister Ranwaka appreciated the support given by the Sri Lanka Army for beautification of the city, the police for environmental protection, and the municipal council as well as the private sector for waste management.
The Minister however hoped that the waste management will continue to be done by the people as well.
Minister Ranawaka also said the government within the next two year plans the Urban Development Authority will convert both the Meethotamulla and Bloemendal garbage dumps to parks.
