The government today officially admitted that it has blocked access to Facebook .
"A decision has been taken to block social media in some places including Facebook” Government Spokesman Minister Rajitha Senaratne said, addressing the Cabinet briefing, a short while ago.
Meanwhile, Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said all schools in the Kandy administrative district will remain closed until further notice.
Government sources confirmed that there was no violent incident in the Kandy town. But, there were isolated incidents of violence in Ambatenna, Akurana and Pujapitiya.
