The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Heat Weather Advisory’ for the Northern, North Central, Eastern, Uva and North Western provinces, warning citizens to take precautions to avoid fatigue and heat cramps.
The districts of Matale and Hambantota are also on alert, the Met. Department said.
Meanwhile, isolated pockets in the Polonnaruwa district may face ‘Extreme Caution’ levels, where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible, with continued activity possibly resulting in a heat stroke.
The Met. Department suggests people stay hydrated and takes breaks in the shade as often as possible, check up on the elderly and the sick, refrain from leaving children unattended in vehicles and limit strenuous outdoor activities.
