The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is to be entrusted with the task of probing into the theft at the residence of Dr. Lester James Peiris who died on Sunday.
It was reported that the 'Golden Peacock Award' presented to Dr. Peiris by India had been stolen by an individual shortly before the latter's funeral.
It is suspected that someone who attended the funeral may have stolen the award.
A similar incident was reported in 2008 too, when a thief broke into the house of Dr. Peiris and stole one of his awards.
