Very heavy showers of between 100mm-150mm can be expected in the Western, Southern Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces today, particularly in Galle, Matara, Ratnapura and Kalutara districts, the Meteorological Department said.
Meanwhile the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) had warned the public to be vigilant for natural disasters such as floods and landslides that may arise as a result of prolonged rainfall experienced across the island.
The areas of Galle and Nuwara Eliya have been particularly warned to be cautious of possible landslides.
Earlier this year over 200 people died and close to 700, 000 people were affected by floods in Sri Lanka.
